Martyn Davey Winner 2018

MARTYN DAVEY MEMORIAL TROPHY

Our winner this year certainly has the background to be a natural rider, with family members having successful careers in both racing and showing.

This rider has been riding since they were four and although not initially particularly keen has recently decided, at the age of seven, that they would like to compete more in the show ring.

This was very fortunate as a little Shetland pony had been loaned to the family last autumn and ultimately proved to be the trigger to encourage our rider to make a return to showing.

He has been the perfect pony for this young rider and he is regularly ridden on or off the lead up on the South Downs.  As with many Shetlands he decides when he’s had enough and it’s time to head home again but luckily our winner is getting to know his tricks and can get the better of him.

Although this partnership only currently competes in lead rein classes it is hoped in time that they will progress to the first ridden classes together.

Our winner has forged a good friendship with his pony and is keen to muck him out, get him in from the field, brush him, pick his feet out and most importantly give him a cuddle.

Their first season in the showring has been very successful with several championships and qualifications for both the Open M&M Lead Rein and Home Produced M&M Lead Rein at the Royal International but the main highlight was winning at the Hickstead Derby meeting and qualifying for the Horse of the Year Show.

Our winner this year is Max Carr.

Martyn Davey Memorial Trophy 2017

This years winner was sitting on ponies from a few weeks of age and started riding at 18months. Our winner loves his ponies and really enjoys taking part in competitions whether it's in hand, ridden or games. He's had a very successful year this year qualifying for both the RIHS and HOYS, winning the M & M lead rein at Windsor and going champion for the second year but his highlight was riding in front of the Queen in the supreme championship. He loves a sleepover show and meeting all his friends and at the NPS Summer Champs he had huge fun with his Shetland pony. He is now looking forward to trying some first ridden ponies. Our winner this year is Toby Johnstone-Evans

Martyn Davey Trophy winner 2016

Martyn Davey Trophy winner 2016 - Poppy Steadman

Our winner in 2016 started her riding career at the age of 6 months when she would sit in front of her mum on her pony.  At 18 mths she got her first pony, a little black shetland whom she still totally adores and she then fell in love with riding.   She was very lucky at the age of 2 and a half to be loaned a lovely Welsh Section A pony and this little pony introduced her into the world of showing.  From then she became hooked and has never looked back, she really loves her riding and has been very lucky to have the opporunity to ride some beautfiul ponies.  2016 was an extra special year when she had the pleasure of qualifying Seamoor Lady Derby and Rowfantina Royal Occasion for HOYS and all her dreams came true when she rode Seamoore Lady Derby to win and become Mini Champion at the Royal International.
