Winter Show Update - Dressage and WHP classes post
NPS area 20 show will not have dressage or workers at the show next weekend (11th) due to frozen surface on the outdoor schools. We are planning a worker show which will incorporate the dressage too.
I promise it will be better with more qualifiers.
The rest of the show goes on as usual unless we have snow forecast for the day.

Autumn update from Danielle
Hi Jill and commitee, I just wanted to say a big thank you again for the help I have had by receiving the NPS bursary. With the left over money I put it towards a new body protector, which I need for my BHS level 3. I have had a fantastic year, lots of work training and fun too. I recently passed my pony club C+ and will be starting the training for the B test in the new year, and am underway with the BHS stage 3. I am also going to start my teacher training in the new year. I am still enjoying my work and training at Penny Sangsters, and am looking forward to doing more working hunter and showing with my pony LLandaff Ludovican, and show jumping eventing and showing with my 16'2 Southerly Flight. May I once again say a great big thank you. Love Dani MerchantDate Posted: Thu, 24 November, 2011
Summer update from Danielle
Dear Jill and NPS members, Hi, what a busy summer its been. I have passed my BHS & nvq level 2 and starting back at college next week to do my level 3. I am also working towards my c+ at pony club, which I should have taken ages ago but was unable due to work commitments, but am taking in October. I haven't done quite as many competitions as I would like to have done this year, but unfortunately we were a staff member short for a while, which didn't help. However I have show jumped both my pony Loudles and horse Suki at Golden Cross, and have got into the Golden Cross X factor!! I also got two 4th places in working hunter at the summer Nps, and a 5th at Equifest. I have also taken Suki to the x-country course at Firle and Llodge Farm to have a practise, she did very well. We had such fun at Equifest, once we got there!!! we were nervous about going this year, as taking Suki for the first time, as she is funny with going into different stables - also taking both her and loudles, (normally we just take Loudles) Mum was worried about them travelling that far together, also with a new trailer and the stable issue. (I think she was almost a nervous wreck before we left!!!!!) But we needn't have worried all was fine. Which is more than could be said for the weather - we had torrential rain when we were stuck in the middle of a show ring one day, and got back to find our kitchen/dining area completely soaked. Really hot the next burning us all, and wind gusting, blowing all the gazebos down during lunch on another day and then on the last morning a small thunder storm. But it all added to the entertainment. And my horses were so good throughout. Originally I took Suki up to do show jumping, but decided to have a go at showing her, and was places 10th in large novice riding horse, it was a big class. So really pleased and plan to do more showing with her. I entered the concurs d'elegance also, for fun, there were over 100 entries!! Life is fine at Pennys, with different horses/ponies coming and going, some for training and some whilst there owners go on holiday. I'm not sure what else is happening at the moment, but will keep you informed. Love Danni xxxDate Posted: Sat, 17 September, 2011
Update from Danielle
I have finally found time to send a second update on my progress with my career.
The last few months have been really busy, I have passed my BHS Road Safety, so have now passed it with BHS and Pony Club. I am studying hard towards my BHS level 2, the exam is at the end of this month. I am then hoping to have a couple of quieter months before I start my BHS level 3 in September.
Yesterday at college we watched a dissection of a donkeys stomach, (not for the faint hearted) It was very smelly, but also very interesting. We also learned a lot more about the damage caused to horses from eating Ragwort. (a warning to all NPS members and owners to check fields and paddocks and remove any Ragwort before it flowers).
It has been busy on the yard as Penny Sangster had a fall and broke her hand, so we have had extra horses to ride.
We also decided to sell Top Star my 14.2 as I felt I wasn't able to give him the time he needed, it was a very sad decision to make, but I knew the time would come, as mum has always said I cant keep them all. Top Star (Toddy) has gone to a lovely Pony Club family in Kent, who have said that as he is 16 this year when he retires with them he will stay there for good. At the moment he is out eventing once again, doing what he does best. I was interested to find out that Toddy's sire was Tiercel Top Cat s.75 Mrs Sonia Burt, will probably remember him.
I am at the moment trying a lovely TB called Suki she is 16'1, and really enjoying her.
I managed to get time off to compete at the spring warm up show at Golden cross, with Loudles my 13'2 working hunter pony and we picked up two 4th places and a 5th place. Unfortunately I have had to cancel a couple of shows that I intended to do, but am looking forward to the summer show at Ardingly, and also off to Equifest. (cant wait).
Thank you all once again for choosing me for the bursary, the lap top has been very useful for me with all my work.
Love Dani xx

Jenny Powell
It is with sadness that I report Jenny Powell passed away yesterday morning 8th January. Jenny founded the Courtland pony stud and was well known throughout the pony world. She followed her ponies enthusiastically when they were sold and had much pleasure from the successes of ridden ponies such as Courtland Cottage Fair, Mayfair, Poletta and Be Fair and her brood mares Mayfair III, Oakley Gay Royal and Havelock Tosca.
Jenny was a good friend and will be sadly missed.

AGM
Many thanks to all who attended the AGM last Friday and well done to all the Points Competition winners and Elizabeth Evans, this year's winner of the Martyn Davey Trophy. Diane Price brought along her stall for the Brooke Hospital for Animals and amazingly took £227.40 on the evening for this worthwhile charity. The Christmas cards, donkeys and seasonal gifts were very popular and I think we almost bought all of the stock she came with!! The supper was delicious as usual and an enjoyable time was had by all.Date Posted: Sat, 06 November, 2010
